News: Toronto Maple Sikhs - New Years Polar Bear Dip - Videos
WOW! Fantastic Day it was.
Just Imagine two dozen Maple Leaf Sikhs taking the plunge in Freezing Lake Ontario! It happened on Jan 1st, 2011 in pouring rain.
As a team we had three goals and we reached them all.
1. Have female involvement.
2. Double the number of participants from last year's dozen.
3. Be the #1 Fundraising Team.
We had six ladies take the plunge and we raised over $7000 for Toronto's Habitat for Humanity more than twice the second place team.
For 2012 - We're hoping that more young Toronto Sikhs and Non-Sikhs join us!
It would me amazing to see 50 people take the plunge and raise more than $10K for Toronto's Habitat for Humanity.
My sincerest Thanks to all those who sponsored me and helped me raise my goal of $1000!
I have uploaded a few videos to my YouTube channel. Search "Toronto Maple Sikhs" or "Jas Jagpal". I spent a considerable time editing the shots my wife took and even created a slow-motion classic with the "Chariots of Fire" Olympic soundtrack from my school days.
OK!!!! I promise my next posting will be back to the Toronto Real Estate Market.

Happy New Year 2011 & THANK YOU for Donating.
I feel very good today having reached my fundraising goal of $1000 for Habitat For Humanity. For a day or two I thought it would be impossible. Once again the donations came from the least expected places as it so often happens in life and not from those you thought would.
I'd like to say a big Thank You to Joey Tsang, a fellow realtor who barely knows me but was first to donate. My colleague Assif Yassen who again donated like last year. He works in South Scarborough and Pickering area. My boss Amit Saini for giving on behalf of RE/MAX Dynasty.

Tis The Season: Give with your Heart and Receive with your Soul
After watching a youtube video on the vastness of the stars, galaxies and the universe and how tiny our sun is compared to the largest known star in the universe. Our sun is like a dot on a piece of paper, yet the earth is like a dot to our Sun... and it made me feel really really insignificant in the cosmos.
The universe does not care if I, you or the entire earth existed. Then what of significance can we do? Well I looked at the lives of the Gurus and one thing they did was "give"! They gave their time, money and energy to help uplift humanity and created community (Sangat) so all people can network, share, cooperate, meditate and help each other lives.
It's a sad fact that today, many including myself only think about primarily our self, at most our family and we'd be lucky if it stretches to our siblings and extended family.
Like microbes we are to the cosmos and we are here but for a blink of an eye. I've read "our awareness expands when we give, we do not diminish in value but rather increase." That, "giving starts the receiving process." I know I've not given enough in my life. I need to do more. I'm hoping in the 2011 that I can reach out to more people and learn more about myself and give the gift of giving starting with Habitat for Humanity.

UNIQUE BROWN POLAR BEAR
Brown Polar Bears are a rarity... but this January 1st, 2011 at Sunnyside Pavillion at 11:00 am there is going to be a dozen or more Brown Toronto Polar Bears diving into the frigid waters of Lake Ontario. These Polar Bears bleed Blue & White- they need the Leaf Nation to come out and support their cause, like they did last year.
I know everyone is busy with the holiday planning, snow shoveling and last minute Christmas shopping. While you are doing that I'm sitting in an ice-filled tub practicing like a LEAF for my New Years Day Polar Bear Dip :). I know, I know you must be thinking... these Brown Polar Bear Dudes are crazy to take the plunge again... they are just nuts! but that's a sign of True Grit, Sacrificing the Body for the Team! Help us LEAF FANS?
You know the water is extremely cold... hovering at 0 deg C. I'm feeling cold just thinking of it... and tell you the truth Brown Bear's hate the cold?But hey... when there is a good cause... True Leaf Fans don't back down and will support us. How can Leaf Nation help out the Brown Polar Bears? We want to be the #1 fundraising team ever. Help the Brown and White, in their efforts to raise neededmoney for 60,000 families in need of decent shelter in Toronto.
Face it... many of us are very blessed financially and we're not going to break the bank by donating $10, $20, $50 or what ever. Or we know friends and family who can.
